Thought for the Day 11-25-07

Via the September 17th, 2007 issue of Fortune Magazine (p. 56):

Shelly Lazarus, CEO of advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather, says:
We’re living in a world now where consumers are bombarded with thousands of commercial messages – they’re everywhere you look. Unless you cut through that and engage someone, I think you are lost. Consumers are now clearly in control. They control what they hear and see, when, and where. You have to find new ways to allow them to actively engage with you, or the money you spend is wasted.
Any parallels for education?

  1. It just makes me wonder why so many in education are willing to go the way of Olivetti, the typewriter giant who refused to see the future, or any other group who relied on the past success to chart their future. While not all are comfortble with the new world, find a legitimate presidential candidate who hasn't figured out how to attempt to play a new game of campaigning as facebook might be an (the?) avenue for new bands and new presidents.
