Scribe For The Day

Borrowing an idea from Darren Kuropatwa, Anne is trying scribe posts with her English World Language students. What's a scribe post? From Darren's wiki:
The assignment is simply to post a brief summary of what happened in class each day. A different student is responsible for the daily scribe post and they end their post by choosing the next scribe. The first scribe is a volunteer. The teacher's daily involvement is limited to updating a post called The Scribe List which is at the top of the links list in the sidebar of the class's blog.
Anne isn't doing it exactly like that (and actually Darren's students took it much, much farther than that as well), but that gives you the general idea. The first scribe post in Anne's class has now been posted. Take a look.

  1. I like it! I've been sending homework via e-mail and posting in on my website. This is a great way to get the same result but put the work on different people each day.

  2. We should talk Anne. My Algebra classes are also scribing (some better than others). Check them out at:

Hope to speak with you soon...

  3. At first I looked at this assignment as busywork. A waste of time and a waste of a webpage. Then I spent my off hour today talking with Smith... She completely changed my mind. She explained the assignment as almost a record for my senior year. Or a daily record for an A.P. review. After looking at "scribing" from a future point of view, I realize just how valuable it will be. It's a great idea.

  4. Hello. We also started a class scribe blog this year for class. Very simple - usually just a paragraph but the students have already commented that it is a great way to catch up if they happen to be gone. http://www.classscribe.blogspot.com/

  5. My AP Gov students will be doing this to a degree. However, our focus will be more of what they key points are so that they can more easily prepare for the AP exam in May. Having the mass amount of info would be helpful for catching up or reminding when other things got in the way of listening. But to do that from now unitl May will produce too much info to handle well. So my thought is to do it more in terms of unit or topic reviews. And should it be a blog or a class wiki? Still deciding.
