Ideas for an I.C.?

As you know, Ray and I are not in the classroom teaching. As a result, I am not exactly sure how to use this Blog and tie it in with this class. Any ideas? I was thinking that we could possibly open up a conversation about teaching-what is working, what is not, fears, questions, etc. I was also thinking that Ray and I could discuss different teaching techniques at our Induction Meetings and then have teachers Blog with feedback. I would love to hear from all of you if you have great ideas!!

  1. I think that this could become a very powerful tool for teachers involved in the Induction program. I think that "new" teachers would enjoy sharing material and information in this format. Perhaps people would be more willing to share if they had time to digest the discussion and respond in a very reflective manner. This could take the place of the journal that the new teachers would be responsible for. I think that this could become a tool for discussing classroom policies, practices and problems. Who knows, those that are new to AHS might have the best ideas that have not been shared and this could be a great place for it.

  2. Yes, wearing banana clips and typing on an Apple 2E is an essential part of learning...aahh, how I miss those days. Seriously, this is a great question, one that I am constantly coming back to as a plan my semesters teaching college-prep English Lit. How can I prepare my students in college. What I find difficult is wondering what is current in college regarding reading, writing, etc. when I haven't been there in years.

  3. This could be a great forum for new teachers to post questions to either their mentors or other teachers either old or new to AHS as they begin their teaching career at AHS. It would be a helpful tool for them to connect with those from other departments in terms of sharing ideas and creating a whole new learning community.

  4. I think you could use this as the journaling piece (having been through the first year of induction) and with that, teachers could react and repsond off one another. I think it's important for teachers to feel that they have common problems, issues, and have a support network to share and vent. The technology piece could introduce them not only to blogging, but to a whole new collaborative system.

  5. I agree with the comments on blogging as an effective means of collaboration. However, I would approach it carefully with inductees to ensure that they don't feel that blogging with their mentors or with other departments is simply another task being put on their amply filled plates.
