I wouldn't suggest moving your lecture to outside of class, although I think it would be cool if you recorded it - and the kids questions - and made it available to them outside of class.

For classes like Algebra that have many skills they have to master, I think the lectures on YouTube approach makes some sense. For things that are very much discussion based, not so much.Karl Fischhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11121548023409279686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16660456.post-72528187536003923252010-09-23T12:56:39.071-06:002010-09-23T12:56:39.071-06:00Having just given one of my vey few lectures of th...Having just given one of my vey few lectures of the year, and one of my favorites as my students always ask questions, I wonder what would be lost were I to have recorded it and uploaded it to Youtube. Instead of engaging with students around questions of Puritan theology and Puritan sexual mores and living practices they would have simply looked at me give the basic lecture without the extra explanations prompted by their questions.
BUT
I would have gained another whole class period to help them in their small groups work through the sermons of the likes of Jonathan Edwards, Charles Chauncy, and William Tennent.
BUT they wouldn't have had the evening to make contributions to the class wiki study guide on our current unit on the peopling of America in 17th and 18 centuries. By using the wiki for the details, we are freed up in class to discuss ideas and work though sermons.

So many choices!Margaret Havilandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17894167670096437864noreply@blogger.com
