I like the idea of natural consequences - i.e. if you are busy texting in class and miss the activity you will lose out on learning and that may affect your grade....KFnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16660456.post-45664577861162239022014-09-23T20:06:37.746-06:002014-09-23T20:06:37.746-06:00Love your initials KF :-).
Definitely, students (...Love your initials KF :-).

Definitely, students (and adults) can be distracted by their devices, but that's not really the point. We don't have signs up saying "no books allowed in class", or "no daydreaming in class", or "no doodling in class."

My point isn't that if students are participating in a meaningful learning activity and they get distracted by their devices (or anything else), we shouldn't bring them back to the activity. My point is that they deserve a level of respect that includes an assumption that they will make the right choice more often than not, and that also gives them some reasons to make that right choice.Karl Fischhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11121548023409279686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16660456.post-17414275010981687522014-09-23T12:15:54.989-06:002014-09-23T12:15:54.989-06:00Karl - I love this idea! Thinking about how I can utilize this concept with my own children.
About your "use ipads them to enhance learning" sign, do you think there is concern that kids would be distracted if using their own devices? Compared to school issued devices that wouldn't have their photos, contacts to text etc. 1:1 implementations are expensive. Even most companies have moved to a BYOD policy. I guess that gets to your point...expect more and you will get more kids....KFnoreply@blogger.com
